Twin lakes beachfront improvements

Client: RRM Design Group

Twin Lakes State Beach, located in Santa Cruz, CA, was in serious need of improvements due to the winter storm lashings and sand shifting that regularly occurs. This “Winter Scour” is a danger to road & utilities and limits beach access due to erosion. During the summer, sand levels reach the road which results in vehicles needing to be towed weekly because they have been pulled off too far from the road’s ragged edge.

RRM Design Group was commissioned by the Santa Cruz Redevelopment Agency to design improvements which include a new underground stabilization sea-wall submerged beneath the sand near the road’s edge, 21 formalized parking spaces, beach drop-off areas, Quarried-stone finish pedestrian walkways, ocean-themed Lithocrete Sedimentary bench walls, & improved beach access which includes new stairs that were designed to provide year round access for the 500,000+ beachgoers regardless of sand elevation.

We had the pleasure of working with RRM and assisting them in with their ocean-themed Lithocrete sedimentary bench walls, quarried stone finish pedestrian paving, and beach access stairs.
